The study of the behavior of materials, at the macroscopic and microscopic scales, begins in the 1st year. In the 3rd year, more specific topics are covered (plasticity, damage, composites, polymers, X-rays, electron microscopy, etc.) so that students become familiar with the methods, both numerical and experimental, for characterizing materials and predicting the behavior of structures used in industry. Thanks to the proximity of the Pprime laboratory, students are able to carry out complete and precise studies on the mechanics of materials.
Some examples of studies
Purpose: Research of technical solutions for the manufacturing by polishing of a spherical surface defect in order to meet a need for improved control of the size and shape of the area affected by the polishing. The goal is to propose a new architecture of the polishing head, motorization and damper.
